Responsibilities

As a part-time Professor in the Faculty of Humanities, the appointed candidate will play a critical role in ensuring ethical compliance, academic rigor, and quality in postgraduate research. Below are the key performance areas:

1. Ethics Review and Recommendations

  • Evaluate monthly ethics applications submitted to the Faculty Committee for Research Ethics: Humanities.
  • Identify potential ethics concerns or methodological flaws in research projects.
  • Assess the technical completeness of applications, including data collection tools and statistical methods.
  • Provide timely recommendations to the Faculty Committee for Research Ethics (FCRE) within three days of submission.

2. Postgraduate Ethics Resubmissions

  • Review resubmissions from postgraduate students to TUT’s Human Research Ethics Committee (NHREC).
  • Ensure that all feedback and concerns raised by the NHREC are adequately addressed.

3. New Research Proposal Reviews

  • Critically evaluate research proposals presented at the Faculty of Humanities’ Departmental Committee for Research (FCR).
  • Assess the suitability of topics, methodologies, and theoretical frameworks for proposed research projects.

4. Postgraduate Supervision

  • Provide supervision for postgraduate students in departments with scarce skills capacity.

5. Ethics and Proposal Writing Training

  • Conduct workshops on ethics compliance and research proposal development to enhance postgraduate students’ skills.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this Professor of Humanities vacancy, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications, experience, and skills:

1. Academic Qualifications

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in Humanities or Social Science fields.

2. Experience

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Full or Associate Professor.
